6 Must Have Skid Steer Attachments

You can easily extend the usefulness of your skid steer by adding attachments to it. As this video discusses, the most common attachments for skid steers include power rakes, booms, scissor lifts, winches, three-point adapters, and three shears. Each accomplishes a different job, but all come in handy when working with agricultural or construction applications.

Like buying car parts, skid steer attachments come in original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts and aftermarket parts. While OEM parts perfectly fit the skid steer, aftermarket parts and attachments provide an extensible option that the buyer modifies to fit their skid steer. An OEM part comes from the same manufacturer that created the skid steer, but an aftermarket attachment could potentially fit many skid steers.

Unless you use the equipment frequently, due to its expense, renting, rather than buying a skid steer and its attachments might make more sense. This expensive earth-moving equipment can cost more than $20,000 for the base model, but renting it or an attachment for it costs much less. For instance, an auger attachment ranges in rental cost from $40 to $81 per day, depending on the auger size. A skid steer costs about $510 per day to rent, but, due to location and availability, the rental cost can range plus or minus a few dollars.
